One of the hottest hair trends has been all things headbands. With so many to choose from, there really is something for everyone. Sometimes when new trendy things come around I either eventually hop on board, or knowingly say to myself “no way that’s happening”. I swore that this was going to be the trend that was a hard NO. But then I saw Madewell come out with this casual one and I had to try it. Go figure.
I think part of the issue is that all the ones I’ve seen are usually pretty fancy. So many velvet ones, beaded, pearl-studded and more. And I’m just not really a fancy headband kind of gal. But if you are, don’t worry, today I’m rounding up all sorts of styles to try as well as a few tips on how to wear them! And even some for the more laid back casual looks that I would gravitate towards. But also the Blair Waldorf approved ones for a more uptown look.
How To Wear Headbands
There are so many ways to wear headbands that the ideas are really endless. Channel your inner Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl, or your fashion week street style inspo and take your hairstyle up a few notches. Pair your messy buns, slicked-back ponytails and loose waves with a headband. Take your favorite hairstyle and pop on a fun embellished or knotted headband to make it feel new and fashion-forward. It’s also a great way to take that hair that needs a bit of a wash and instead add in some dry shampoo and cover up your hair with a pretty headband.

Ways To Wear A Headband
Casual With Short Hair
I like to part the hair down the middle and leave a few face framing pieces before adding the headband. This is definitely NOT the old school 90s way we used to do it of pushing all your hair back and then bumping the hair up. Remember those days? Simply place the headband on top of your head leaving some hair in the front! It’s really an easy and casual way to wear these popular hair accessories of the moment. This is great for short hair that’s straight or wavy.

Slicked Back
The middle part rules this style creating a sleek, modern and sophisticated look. A low bun paired with a statement headband is a real show stopper! This to me just screams fashion week or holiday party. It’s sleek, stylish and oh so chic. I also love this with a knotted headband or an embellished one to really take it up a notch. This silky knotted emerald green headband that Blair styled is holiday perfection!

With A Messy Bun
A mix of both, messy waves pulled back with a few pieces in front creates the most perfectly undone look. I also kind of love this bulky braided velvet headband. It’s not something I could ever pull off though. There are a few designers who put these headbands on the map like Jennifer Behr ones here. This is a good affordable inspired one. And also the padded pearl ones from Lele Sadoughi are super popular. These are also a more affordable version if you’re not looking to splurge.

Glam Hair And A Statement Headband
Similar to my casual hair down combination with a headband, you can also take that look up a notch with a glam look. Just do big voluminous waves and pair this hairstyle with a more glamorous headband. This silky mustard knot headband from the Sazan x Scunci collection is great for just that.
