One of the best things I ever did to my home was to update my outdoor patio space. It’s a small little cement patio that was not very exciting. As someone living in a high-rise, it was just a big cement box basically. But sprucing up an outdoor space, no matter the size doesn’t have to be a hugely expensive endeavor. A few simple affordable pieces, a good rug (or floor tiles!) and some greenery can make all the difference.
Since outdoor furniture easily gets destroyed, weathered down and honestly doesn’t get used enough, I wanted to round up some really budget friendly patio finds to elevate your space. Whether you want to add a conversation set to your high rise patio, or include some ambient lighting to your backyard, I’ve got you covered today. Inspired by Emily Henderson’s perfect patio above (PS she’s like my FAV) you’d be surprised how easy it can be to transform and elevate your outdoor space without spending a ton of money. Here’s how to do it.
Budget Friendly Patio Finds To Elevate Your Space
Start small or go big, these are all the items I love for an elevated patio. My space is tiny, so I love a simple bistro set and a small bench. It allows for ample seating whether you want to lounge, or dine. You can also check out my patio makeover here. You won’t believe the before and after!
1. Classic Bistro Set
A bistro set is a great way to instantly turn your patio or deck into an oasis. It comes with the essential pieces you need for getting your patio ready for a guest. A table, and two chairs, it’s perfect! And all you have to do is add a little decor. These are ideal for small spaces like an apartment balcony (check out mine here!)
2. Patio Bench
A bench is a great way to add additional space or spruce up a boring wall. Add some pillows and a few planters or lanterns on the side for the sweetest little seating vignette. They’re also great to move around to where you need them for additional seating!
3. String Lights
For ideal ambient lighting, add some pretty string lights. There are so many options to choose from. Whether you want something more classic, or mid century modern, or even more whimsical. So many to choose from.
4. Hammock
If you’ve got a great space, why not add some serious relaxation with a hammock? I love the idea of one of these as they instantly make you feel like you’re on vacation. These are ideal for big backyards to help extend your entertaining space.
5. Comfortable Chair Set Or Loveseat
A good set of comfortable chairs can be great for your patio. I love ones that come with cushions so that you can be comfortable for hours while enjoying the outdoors. I also love a good loveseat where people can cozy up together. These are definitely a little pricier, but they’re much larger pieces!
6. Outdoor Rug
Already have a bistro set and just need a quick fix? This is the best way to do it, with a rug! An outdoor rug is great as it holds up to the weather and you don’t have to worry about it. This quick and easy update will make your space feel instantly elevated and pulled together without spending much money. Sisal or jute are also a great option to choose for a rug if you have a slightly covered space.
7. Pillows
Now that you’ve got some great furniture, add some color and texture with pillows. They’re so affordable and will quickly make your outdoor space feel like a true extension of your home. I always recommend keeping your home decor style in mind when decorating your patio to ensure it all flows perfectly and pillows help to do just that.
8. Bar Cart
Transform your space into the ultimate entertaining destination by adding a bar cart. This piece of furniture always seems to instantly indicate a good time. Add your favorite cocktail mixers, glassware and more to be prepared for your next party. Plus, they’re great for adding a few plants to them too so you can grow even more on your patio!
