One of the beauty trends I’ve been dying to try lately is a cream contour stick. I know Kim Kardashian sort of put this on the map for me at least, with her KKW Beauty contour stick. Watching her draw all over her face to create shadows and depth was so fascinating. It’s something I already am doing with my powdered bronzer, but using a cream product was something I wanted to try out.
Using a bronzer to contour in my everyday makeup routine has been a staple for years now. It helps to create a stronger cheekbone, you can use it on either side of your nose, and I always add it to the top of my head near my hairline and jaw. It helps to give you a nice glow but also helps to create some depth and shadows .
How To Use Cream Contour Sticks
To use a cream contour, you’ll want to make sure you first find a product in a shade that works for you and your skin tone. It also doesn’t necessarily have to be in stick form, but that typically seems to be the popular vessel for this makeup product. I went with the Fenty Beauty MATCH STIX CONTOUR SKINSTICK in the shade Mocha. There are several other great brands out there to choose from whether it’s from the drugstore, or Sephora, cream contour has become super popular!

Fenty Beauty MATCH STIX CONTOUR SKINSTICK
The product that got me into cream contour is definitely the Fenty Beauty MATCH STIX CONTOUR SKINSTICK. I went with shade Mocha which was recommended on their site under Shade Finder based on the foundation color I typically wear from Fenty. Which I love by the way, I’m a Fenty fan through and through now. This MATCH STIX CONTOUR SKINSTICK comes in 7 different shades to match various cool and warm undertones along with a range of skin tones.
Which Brush Should You Use To Apply A Cream Contour
To apply and buff a cream contour into your skin, and really for any sort of liquid or cream product, you’ll want a dense synthetic brush. Synthetic brushes don’t absorb as much product and make it easier to blend and get a smooth finish. Below are some dense synthetic contouring brushes and foundation brushes that will work for foundation and applying a cream contour.

When And Where To Apply Your Cream Contour Stick
When getting ready to contour your face, you’ll want to already have your foundation done. I usually do my foundation, then contour, highlight and blush if I end up doing blush. Then set everything. I also love this product because it’s also a great way to add some warmth to your skin when you don’t want to put on a ton of makeup. I’ve used this over my everyday moisturizer as just a way to warm my skin up and make me feel a little more alive instead of doing a full face.
Where you apply your cream contour is no different than where you’d apply your pressed powder bronzer. An easy way to do this is to do an E on each side of your face. Plus, you can do a swipe down each side of your nose to make it appear more narrow. I do a line down my cheekbone where mine naturally would have a bit of a shadow. Then on my forehead near my hairline. This is usually where the sun would hit your face and cause a natural glow. And then again around my jawline to enhance it and create more shadows.

How To Blend Cream Contour
Using a dense synthetic brush, simply buff and blend this into your skin. I usually do small and short patting/blending motions until it’s fully blended. The great thing about this product too is that it’s super buildable. You can go really light and just add a bit, or add a few more layers onto it. This is just one simple layer and you can see in the before and after how it adds such a nice warmth to my skin. You can definitely use any amount of product you like to add more depth and pigmentation to your look. I find that this product goes a long way and has lasted me quite a while so don’t be shy to use more if you feel the need to.

Step By Step Guide To Applying Cream Contour Sticks
Step One
Prep your skin for your contour by applying your makeup first. Contour is one of the last products I apply. Primer, foundation and concealer always goes on first. Contour will happen after along with blush and highlight.
Step Two
Add your contour to your face in all the places you want to create shadows. Then gently blend the contour into your skin to avoid any harsh lines.
Step Three
Finish off your makeup with any blush and highlight. And then be sure to set it all. I like to use a setting powder and do a setting spray as well.
